Harrisonburg, Va.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated by Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) 83-27 on day two of the Eastern Mennonite tip-off tournament at Eastern Mennonite University.
John Jay, now 0-2 this season, was led by
Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) with nine points. She was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 16.5 points over the two day tournament. Freshman
Claire Prince (Wellington, FL, Summit Christian Academy) added seven points and seven rebounds for John Jay.
The host Royals led from start to finish in the contest. EMU scored the first five points of the contest and never looked back.
EMU led by as much as 27 and the Royals led 36-9 with 2:18 remaining. John Jay closed out the first half scoring the last four points and went into halftime down 36-13.
EMU opened the second half on a 14-0 run to take a 50-13 lead with 16:50 to play.
The Royals gradually pulled away in the remainder of the second half. EMU took a 51-point lead with 5:21 to play and led 75-24.
Grice connected on a three point field goal with 5:02 remaining and the Bloodhounds did not score again. EMU closed out the contest with an 8-0 run to take a 56-point lead as they won 83-27.
Zadoora Carson (New York, NY, Urban Peace Academy) led John Jay with eight rebounds.
John Jay returns to action on Tue. Nov. 24 for its 2009-10 home opener against Kean University at 5 p.m.
