New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball opened its home schedule against Kean University, arguably the toughest opponent it will face all season, and the Bloodhounds fell 104-30 to the Cougars who are ranked 11th in the nation in the D3hoops.com preseason poll.
John Jay (0-3 overall) was led in scoring by
Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas)with 11 points and six rebounds in the contest, including 9-for-12 from the free throw line.
Kean University never trailed in the game, and with the score tied 2-2 in the opening seconds of the contest, the Cougars went on a 27-4 run to open a 29-6 lead with just under nine minutes gone by.
Kean gradually increased its lead and up 27 (41-14) with 4:12 to play, they closed out the first half by outscoring John Jay 12-0 over the final four minutes to take its biggest lead of the first half and were up 53-14 at the break.
The defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champions opened the second half on a 10-0 run and Kean never looked back.
No player on the Kean roster played more than 18 minutes and all 17 players who suited up for the Cougars saw action.
Naimah Clemons scored 17 points off the bench on 6-for-8 shooting and dished out a game-high eight assists to lead Kean, while
Tiffany Patrick netted 14 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
Kean held a 60-18 edge in rebounding and went 42-for-82 from the field, while John Jay was 7-for-41.
John Jay returns to action on Tue. Dec. 1 for a game at conference rival Hunter College at 5 p.m.
