New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated at home as the Bloodhounds lost to Simmons College 66-49.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) with 18 points, while
Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas) added 15 for John Jay.
Grice scored the first two points of the game, but the visiting Sharks went on an 11-0 run from there and led the rest of the way.
Simmons led by as much as 24 in the first half and led by that amount with 1:55 as the Sharks led 42-18.
The Sharks held the Bloodhounds at an arms length distance the rest of the way before the final buzzer. Simmons led by as much as 26 midway through the second half and were up 63-37 with 5:05 to go.
John Jay closed out the game on a 12-3 run, before the game ended.
Simmons was led by
Jessica Thomas with 16 points.
Shantel Rodriguez (Rio Piedra, Puerto Rico, Franklin D. Roosevelt) had a team-high 11 rebounds for John Jay.
John Jay returns to action on Sun. Jan. 3 against Catholic University in the opening round of the Catholic University Tournament.
