New York, N.Y.— The City University of New York Athletic Conference has announced that John Jay College of Criminal Justice men's basketball player, Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY, Alfred E. Smith) has been named the conference Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 6.

Seeing action for the first time in 11 months (he missed the second half of last season and the start of this season due to injuries), Mason picked up where he left off. He scored a game-high 28 points and had nine rebounds against Hunter College on Dec. 1.

He followed that up with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 69-66 home win against Lehman College on Dec. 3. Mason finished off the week scoring 18 (second half) points and nine rebounds in a home non-conference game against Connecticut College.

Through three games this season, Mason is averaging 20.0 points and 9.7 rebounds. He is shooting 52.2 percent (24-for-46) from the floor this season.

The 6-3 senior forward has also upped his career scoring total to 960 points, leaving up just 40 shy of the elusive 1,000 point club.

John Jay returns to action on Wed. Dec. 9 at William Paterson Univ. at 8 p.m.
