New York, N.Y. --- The John Jay College of Criminal Justice Department of Athletics has announced that
Craig Davidson has been named head men's tennis coach.
Davidson, a West Hartford, Connecticut native, comes to John Jay with a wealth of tennis playing, coaching and teaching experience.
A 2005 graduate of the University of Montana, where he lettered for the Division I Grizzles, Davidson's experience includes teaching and coaching at various settings dating back to the mid 1990's.
His teaching and coaching experience includes serving as tennis pro with Tumblebrook Country Club in Bloomfield, Connecticut from 1994-96 and the Missoula Parks & Recreation Department from 2000-02. Most recently, Davidson has worked as a tennis pro with Bumble Bee Tennis and the Gotham Tennis Academy, both located in New York City.
“It is a great honor to be named the head men's tennis coach at John Jay,” said Davidson. “I am looking forward to building on last season's success and helping the program get to the next level.”
Davidson is a 1998 graduate of William H. Hall High School where he was a four year member of the boy's tennis team. And while in high school, Davidson was a state champion in 1997 and was an All State player three times.
Davidson's playing accolades also includes having been a top 10 United States Tennis Association (USTA) New England player from 1992-97. He was a nationally ranked junior player, a Connecticut State singles champion and played in sectional and national tournaments throughout the United States as a teenager.
“Craig Davidson brings a tremendous amount of energy, excitement and tennis experience to the John Jay men's tennis program,” said John Jay Director of Athletics, Dan Palumbo. “I am very confident he will do a great job and keep the John Jay men's tennis program moving in the right direction.”
The men's tennis season is set to get underway on Mon. Mar. 22 at Farmingdale State at 4 p.m.
