New York, N.Y.— The 2009-10 John Jay College of Criminal Justice women’s swimming team is set for its most intense meet of the season as the Bloodhounds are preparing to take on the best CUNYAC has to offer in the 2010 CUNYAC women’s swimming and diving championships hosted by Lehman College from Feb. 4-6 at the Apex Arena. Thursday and Friday’s events are set to start at 3 p.m., while Saturday’s races are slated for a 9 a.m. start.
The Bloodhounds have been rapidly improved this season. After a winless 2008-09 campaign and a last place finish at the meet one season ago, John Jay has been a force. The Bloodhounds finished the 2009-10 regular season 5-6 overall, including a 2-3 showing in conference play.
Along with wins in non conference matches against the College of New Rochelle (11/18), College of St. Elizabeth (11/30) and College of Mount Saint Vincent (1/20), John Jay has swam to wins against conference rivals College of Staten Island (11/6) and York College (1/12) to set the stage as a resurgent force in CUNYAC.
“I am expecting personal best times in almost every event. These ladies have worked hard all season and they deserve to do well,” said head coach Jessica Kolackovsky.
Leading the way for John Jay will be the foursome of
Nathalie Cuellar (New Rochelle, NY, New Rochelle),
Rose Edelman (Garden City, NY, Garden City),
Kaili Insalaco (Palm Coast, FL, Flagler Palm Coast), and
Justyna Maksimiuk (Sunnyside, NY, Brooklyn Tech).
The four have teamed for six wins at the 200 yard medley relay, and overall they have combined for 34 individual wins.
The Bloodhounds will also call on the services of talented swimmers
Amanda Garcia (Astoria, NY, St. John's Prep),
Catherine Gomez (Ozone Park, NY, Queens Vocational),
Keshia Hacker (Brooklyn, NY, Murray Bergtraum),
Hannah Kaplenko (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunshwick),
Billie Jean Kuppler (Long Island City, NY, Long Island City),
Megan Maiello (Towaco, NJ, Montville),
Johanna McLaughlin (New York, NY, Beacon School) and
Teresa Medina (Fishkill, NY, John Jay) to gain key points as John Jay is expecting to make a splash against the best CUNYAC has to offer.
