New York, N.Y.— Numerous team captains from John Jay College's 12 NCAA varsity programs were in attendance on Wednesday evening for a reception in honor of Student Leadership of John Jay College as College President Jeremy Travis held a special reception which included team captains of the athletics programs at the Macaulay Honors College located on West 67th street.

Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum) and
Luis Guzman (Yonkers, NY, Mt. St. Michael's) from baseball,
Mikey Babayev (Moscow, Russia, Forest Hills)from men's cross country,
Baljit Kahlon (Queens Village, NY, Bryant) from women's cross country,
Stephen Wilson (Freeport, NY, Freeport)from rifle,
Steven Castillo (Maspeth, NY, Forest Hills),
Jeimy Polo (Miami, FL, Forest Hills) and
Kemar Brown (Kingston, Jamaica, Martin Van Buren) from men's soccer,
Katherine Higuera-McCoy (Jamaica, NY, St. Francis Prep) from women's volleyball as well as
Kaili Insalaco (Palm Coast, FL, Flagler Palm Coast) and
Megan Maiello (Towaco, NJ, Montville) from women's swimming were on hand for the reception as they, along with other John Jay College student leaders, were congratulated by President Travis for doing an outstanding job.
“Over the past couple of years the college has gone though a number of changes such as increased participation in community service, increase in student elections, increase in the number of clubs from 25 to 43, almost double, an increase in the representatives for college council and a higher level of engagement in North Hall,” said Travis. “But none of this could be possible without the great leadership from student leaders at the College.”
The event started at 5:30 p.m. as the guests were treated to a wide assortment of refreshments as the student leaders mingled with one another as well as numerous college administrators, including President Travis Provost Jane Bowers, Dean of Students Wayne Edwards and Vice President of Student Development Berenecea Johnson-Eanes.
“You guys have done a great job, staying busy with all kinds of events,” said Johnson-Eanes. “This year the student leaders have done more cross coloration than ever before and that is great to see.”
Director of Athletics Dan Palumbo was also in attendance and demonstrated his leadership at the College.
“It's great to have the change we have had at this College. It has been all relevant and I'm excited to see the student leaders taking the lead with so many initiatives,” said Palumbo.
