New York, N.Y.— John Jay Criminal Justice Department of Athletics has announced that
Christina Perez has been named head softball coach.
Perez will take over a program that is coming off an 11 win season last year and earned a fifth place finish in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play.
Though a first year head coach, Perez is extremely familiar with the program. She was a four year player for the Bloodhounds (2008-11) and was arguably one of the best player in the history of the program.
In her four years as a player for the program, she saw action in 105 games and posted a career .399 batting average (114-for-286), with 23 doubles, four triples, five homeruns and 70 runs batted in. She walked 70 times and scored 80 runs.
She was named a CUNYAC second team All-Star in her sophomore year and first team All-Star in junior year. She batted a career-high .545 (24-for-44) during her senior year which was cut short due to injury.
“I am pleased to have Christina coach the softball program,” said John Jay Director of Athletics, Dan Palumbo. “Christina was a tremendously talented softball player for four years, and she knows the game inside and out. I have a high level of confidence in her.”
The John Jay softball season gets underway on Friday March 2 with a pair of games in Virginia Beach, Va. against Wilkes University and D'Youville College.
