NEW YORK, N.Y. --- John Jay College of Criminal Justice has announced the hiring of
Carol Kashow as its new Director of Athletics, effective March 11.
Kashow comes to the West Side of Manhattan after serving, since October 2008, as Director of Athletics at Hostos Community College a City University of New York (CUNY) two-year college that competes at the NJCAA Division III level.
“I am extremely excited about coming to John Jay and helping the department move forward,” said Kashow. “I believe John Jay already has a great foundation of students and student-athletes in with to do so.”
While with Hostos, Kashow revitalized an athletics department that was in disarray into an operation of the highest standards and expectations. She had a profound impact in all areas of athletics, from planning and staffing to budgeting and fundraising, from athletic excellence and recruiting to compliance and academic support.
Prior to joining Hostos, Kashow served as Associate Director of Athletics at Hunter College from 2005 to 2008. Before that she was Director of Athletics at the College of St. Elizabeth, in Hackettstown, N.J., for two years.
In her professional career, Kashow, a Philadelphia, Pa. native, also has an extensive successful background in coaching. She served as head softball coach at the University of Pennsylvania, from 1997 to 2003. Prior to that, she was head softball coach and an adjunct instructor at Temple University from 1991 to 1997, and head softball and badminton coach at Drexel University from 1979 to 1991.
She is a 1977 graduate of West Chester State College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. She was inducted into the College's Hall of Fame in 2002. She was also inducted into the Philadelphia Softball Hall of Fame in 1998, and received the Philadelphia Board of Officials for Women Sport Service Award in 2006.
“I am extremely pleased that we have been able to attract a leader with such extraordinary credentials to be the next Athletic Director at John Jay,” said Interim Vice President of Student Affairs / Interim Director of Athletics, Thomas Stafford, who announced the appointment. “
Carol Kashow has an impressive background as an athlete, coach, and athletic administrator, and I am confident that she will be a strong and effective leader for our program and for our student athletes.”
