About John Jay Baseball

ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE BASEBALL

We are looking for fully committed, experiences BASEBALL PLAYERS, NOT PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO PLAY BASEBALL.
All these requirements are MANDATORY and FINAL. Please DO NOT try out if you do not meet the criteria.

*There are NO SPRING TRY OUTS - you must attend EVERY try out in the fall to possibly make the team. If you miss, you cannot play for the year. 

*EVERY PRACTICE (as well as game, event, study hall and Florida trip) MANDATORY 

*You must have High School or College Baseball playing experience 

*You must have played in a summer league this past summer 

*You MUST be a FULL TIME (12 or more credits), 4 Year (BA or BS) student (if not a freshman, you must have a 2.0 GPA or above) 

*You MUST be out of classes on Tuesday's and Thursday's in the fall no later than 12:20 and off and available all day Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's NO EXCEPTIONS! 

*You MUST be out of classes EVERY DAY in the spring at 12:20 p.m. and off and available Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's. NO EXCEPTIONS! 

*You must take part in EVERY team fundraising (for the Florida trip which is during the school year, not during any break), team community service, team charity work, team study halls, and team college events. NO EXCEPTIONS! 

*You must be able to perform fitness evaluations (lifting, flexibility, cardio) along with timed sprints and distance running 

*You must condition and weight lift 

*You must meet the moral and character standards of the program 

*You must follow all team rules and policies (no facial hair, no pony tails, etc., no hats or ipods indoors), you must attend class at all times and carry yourself with respect, pride, and class at all times 

*You MUST know the history and tradition of John Jay College baseball along with a knowledge John Jay Baseball (current and history) of Division III and all college baseball. 

*Finally, you must respect and play the game the right way at all times. 100% hustle and focus is required. 

*This is and will be a VERY SERIOUS, COMMITTED college baseball program with a willingness to sacrifice and a desire to achieve. 

*We are looking for serious baseball players who want to be good, loyal teammates, not those looking to just play and make friends. 

*This is VERY COMPETITIVE. You MUST come in top condition because "potential conditioning" does not matter 

*This program is NOT for everyone so please be sure you really want to try to be part of something this intense. 

*Walk ons will be rare so you should contact me by email with your intent
You WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IF ALL THE PRIOR CRITERIA ARE NOT MET - FINAL!


We will keep 24 players and 6 alternates (red shirts). We go to Florida for 10 days (play 6 games and spend all day on the fields every day we are there in Feb. and March). NO VACATION or FREE time. ONLY baseball, lifting and study halls (all required work is kept up) 

*We play a full 40 game NCAA schedule. We play or practice 6 days a week in the spring at all hours (early morning to late night). We have an NCAA maximum 19 week season. Everyone must be NCAA compliant and meet the standards of the NCAA (including drug testing) to play. We chart and scout all opponents prior to playing. 

*We have an Adidas, Akadema and Oakley contracts. We travel to all practices as a team by van or charted bus and receive meal money for all away games. YOUR GRADES ARE MONOTORED as are your assignments by constant contact and progress reports from your professors. We have a certified athletic trainer as well as team doctors. 
*You are given lifting, running and throwing programs for the off-season and your hitting, pitching, fielding and throwing is videotaped. You are given nutritional guidelines and information. We have a Major League Pro Scout Day as well as a fundraising dinner involving former and current professional scouts and coaches.

The MANDATOTY, REQUIRED ONE TIME ONLY try out dates are - Tuesday September 14, 2010 for position players and Thursday September 16, 2010 for pitchers. Cuts will be made immediately and then continue through the fall (16 NCAA allowed practice days in 4 weeks).
