Baseball Season Ends, Fall to Richard Stockton 10-2 at ECACs

Pomona, N.J.—  The John Jay baseball season concluded on Friday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Richard Stockton College, 10-2, in the semifinal round of the 2007 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Regional Championship.
 
With the loss the Bloodhounds end the season at 27-14, including the conference regular season and postseason champions. The Ospreys have advanced into the championship round and will face Ramapo College on Saturday.
 
After a scoreless game over the first two innings, John Jay scored the first run of the game in the top half of the third inning on an RBI single up the middle by John DeCrescenzo (Brooklyn, NY/ Telecommunications) that scored that scored Tim Murphy (Yorktown Heights, NY/ Yorktown).
 
But the lead quickly evaporated in the bottom half of the frame when Richard Stockton exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. The Bloodhounds committed two errors in the inning resulting in all four Osprey runs being unearned.
 
Richard Stockton added another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. Ospreys’ Matt Allen (Salem, NJ/ Woodstown) recorded a triple that allowed Brian Reagle (Mangolia, NJ/ Sterling) to score.
 
The host school then recorded four more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to take a 10-1 lead.
 
John Jay put up another run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Johan Abad (Brooklyn, NY/ Flushing) which scored Joe Ayala (Bronx, NY/ St. Raymond’s) but no closer.
 
John Jay had at least one base runner in eight of the nine innings, but the Bloodhounds hit into three tailor made double plays (first inning, second inning, and seventh inning).
 
The Bloodhounds got nine hits in the contest, including two from Henry Chao (Woodside, NY/ Bryant) (2-for-4) and John Massoni (Staten Island, NY/ St. Peter’s Boys) (2-for-3).
 
John Dobkowski (Brooklyn, NY/ Grover Cleveland) pitched six innings allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out three.
 

John Jay’s 27 wins this season was second most in school history. The school record is 30 which was set last year.
