Port Charlotte, Fla.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated by Muskingum College, 26-3, in the Bloodhounds first of two games on the day at the Snowbird Classic.
The Muskies scored five runs in the first and it proved to be more than enough as Muskingum recorded 27 hits on the afternoon and had a 21-0 lead after four innings.
John Jay scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth. Freshman outfielder Luilly Lopez (Bronx, NY, Cardinal Hayes) ripped a two out single down the right field line to score Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center) and James Podlucky (Staten Island, NY, IMG Academy).
The Bloodhounds got one more in the sixth when Albert Cepeda (Bronx, NY, Graphic Arts) scored from third on a groundout by Steven Roman (Middletown, NY, Chapel Field Christian).
John Jay recorded eight hits, including two each from Perez and Cepeda.
Ronald Baez suffered the loss, after going 3.0 innings and allowing 11 runs (seven earned) on nine hits.
