New York, N.Y.— Though his NCAA basketball career completed last month, the awards have not seized for men's basketball player
Vaughn Mason. The two-time City University of New York Athletic Conference All-Star has now been named to the D3Hoops.com All-Atlantic Region first team and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Regional second team.
The Atlantic Region consists of 33 teams, ranging from schools as far north as Troy, N.Y. (Sage College) to as south as Pomona, N.J. (Stockton College). Four conferences including CUNYAC, Skyline, New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and Landmark make up the region.
The ECAC Metro Region has 32 team, which includes all CUNYAC, NJAC and Skyline Conference teams as well as New York University of the University Athletic Association (UAA).
The 6-3 forward was one of only three players in the conference to average a double-double this season. He averaged 19.2 points and 10.1 rebounds this season, both in which led the team, while he had the fourth highest scoring average in the conference and third highest rebounding average.
In his four seasons with the Bloodhounds, Mason compiled numerous accomplishments. He was a member of the 2007-08 men's basketball team which won its first ever CUNYAC men's basketball championship.
In 86 career games, Mason scored 1,283 points (sixth all-time in John Jay men's basketball history), good for 14.9 points per game. He averaged 5.9 rebounds and connected on 169 three point field goals.
Upon his anticipated graduation this May, Mason, a Criminology and Public Administration major with a cumulative 3.4 grade point average, is attempting to attend law school next year and has aspirations of becoming a lawyer.
