New York, N.Y.— The John Jay College of Criminal Justice Department of Athletics has announced it has added a new, but familiar, member to the athletics family, as the Bloodhounds will field an NCAA Division III men's volleyball program starting this season.
The men's volleyball program will be the fourteenth program for the College which currently has baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, rifle, men's soccer, women's soccer softball, women's swimming, men's tennis, women's tennis and women's volleyball.
“We are excited about bringing the men's volleyball program to John Jay,” said Director of Athletics, Dan Palumbo. “There has been a great deal of demand for it, and we are expecting to have a full roster and a high number of matches.”
The Bloodhounds men's volleyball program, who last competed as a varsity sport at John Jay in 2002, will compete in the highly competitive City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) which is an automatic qualifying conference to the NCAA championship tournament for winning CUNYAC.
In addition to the conference games, John Jay will face non conference team including Kean University and SUNY Purchase as well as teams John Jay is still attempting to add.
Home games will be played at the friendly confines of the Doghouse, located at 899 Tenth Avenue, the same venue as the women's program.
Women's volleyball coach, Brittany Fout, will take the reins of the men's program, whose season opening match is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Kean University.
