Women’s Basketball Cruises to Victory over Yeshiva in Sunday Matinee

New York, N.Y.—After committing a season-high 42 turnovers on Friday, the John Jay women's basketball team committed a season-low 11 to right the ship on Sunday as the Bloodhounds cruised to a 79-28 win over Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon.
 
The win improves John Jay to 3-4 this season, while Yeshiva goes to 1-4.
 
The Bloodhounds shot 53.7 percent from the floor in the first half to take a commanding 48-17 lead at halftime.
 
John Jay opened the second half on a 24-2 run to take a 72-19 lead to put the game far out of reach.
 
John Jay had five players score in double figures in the win. The Bloodhounds were led by Tyana Hale with 16 points, while Elizabeth Newton had 12 in the win on 6-for-8 shooting. Allana Beddoe and Kelly Flowers added 11 apiece in the win (Flowers was 5-for-5 from the field in the win), while Danielle Eagan knocked in 10.
 
The Bloodhounds outrebounded the visiting Macabees 41-33 in the contest and got a game-high 11 from Jamecia Forsythe, who also had five blocked shots for John Jay.
 
Twenty-four of John Jay's 35 made field goals came assisted and the Bloodhounds had a game-high six from Hale, who added five steals and seven rebounds.
 
Beddoe had a season-high eight steals in the win as John Jay took the ball away 24 times. Yeshiva committed 35 turnovers in the contest.
 
Shantel Rodriguez had a solid game off the bench for the Bloodhounds with six points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 
The Bloodhounds held a 28-2 advantage on fast break points, 35-12 on points off turnovers and 34-9 on second chance points.
 
Yeshiva was led by Rebecca Yosher and Daniella Litwin with 10 points each. Yosher also contributed with eight rebounds and three blocks for the Macabees. Meanwhile Litwin and Moriah Green had four assists each in the contest.
 
John Jay returns to action on Friday November 30 when the Bloodhounds face Nazareth College in the opening round of Nazareth's New Years Eve Classic. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
