Rochester, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated by Susquehanna University 70-54 in the consolation game of the Nazareth College New Year's Eve tournament hosted by Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 3-6 overall this season as they now will turn their attention to the meat of the conference schedule beginning with a contest at home against defending City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) champion Baruch College on Wednesday.
In Saturday's loss, the Bloodhounds were led by Tyanna Hale with 20 points to go along with six rebounds. Meanwhile teammates Allana Beddoe and
Jamecia Forsythe netted double figures in scoring. Beddoe had 11 in the contest, while Forsythe had 10 and a game-high 13 rebounds. Susquehanna went 15 players deep and were led by Gina Palazzi with just 10 points. Thirteen of the fifteen players who saw action scored at least two points for the Crusaders.
Susquehanna scored the opened the game on an 8-0 run to lead the contest from start to finish.
Later in the first half, the Crusaders established a 16-point lead and led 20-4 with 11:18 to go.
Susquehanna coasted along in the first half and led by double-figures the rest of the stanza and led at halftime 39-24.
The Crusaders spurted away with a 6-2 run to open the second half to go up by 20 and Susqhehanna led 46-26 with 16:41 to play.
Susquehanna led by as much as twenty-five points later in the contest before it ended.
The Crusaders outscored John Jay 24-6 on points in the paint. And Susquehanna had a 26-9 edge on points off turnovers. The Bloodhounds committed 30 turnovers in the game, while the Crusaders gave the orange pill away 18 times.
Susquehanna's bench depth allowed the Crusaders to hold a 37-7 advantage in points off the bench.
