Baseball Loses Two on Saturday

Port Charlotte, Fla.— The John Jay baseball team is still in search of its first win of the season as the Bloodhounds lost two games on Saturday. John Jay was defeated by Medaille College 18-1 early in the day before falling to Wilmington College 14-4 later on.

With the two losses, John Jay is now 0-6 with one game remaining in the Snowbird Classic tomorrow morning against Bluffton College.

In the first game on Saturday, Medaille College led from start to finish. The Mavericks scored three runs in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead. John Jay's lone run came in the bottom half as the Bloodhounds capitalized on Medaille College miscues. Yahnny Arias led off the inning by reaching on an error and later scored on another error with two outs.

But the run was the only one John Jay would get against Medaille. The Mavericks proceeded to score another run in the fourth, four in the fifth and nine in the ninth to break the game open.

John Jay was limited to five hits in the contest. Craig Lalla suffered the loss after going 5.0 innings and allowing nine runs on eight hits.

In the game against Wilmington, John Jay took the lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Benjamin Beiro that scored Alex Rodriguez who reached base with a one out single.

The Bloodhounds took the 1-0 lead into the fourth when the Quakers took the lead and distanced themselves. Wilmington scored three in the fourth and fifth, and four each in the sixth and seventh. In the meantime, John Jay scored one run during that span as the Quakers led 14-2 through seven innings.

John Jay scored a run each in the eighth and ninth to finalize the scoring.

Beiro had his best game of the season by going 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Bobby Villante was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Steven Caracena also had multiple hits as he went 2-for-5 with a run.

Braylin Perez suffered the loss. He went 6.0 innings and allowed 10 runs on 11 hits.
