Box Score
Only three student-athletes in the last twelve seasons in the CUNY Athletic Conference have recorded 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. That has now changed. Senior
Jamecia Forsythe is now the fourth athlete to join this prestigious list. Forsythe, who recorded her 1,000th career point on Tuesday, November 26, registered a game-high 21 points, 12 rebounds (7 offensive), two blocks, and two steals in a non-conference win, 61-55, over NYU-Poly.
"Another impressive milestone for Jamecia," sixth-year head coach
Diane Ramirez said. "I couldn't be more proud of her."
Forsythe is already the Bloodhounds career leader in rebounds and is currently third in points since 2002. She trails Jessica Lirio ('07-'11) and Dominique Grice ('07-'11), who recorded 1,122 and 1,527, respectively.
"I am really proud of this milestone," Forsythe said. "Again, I would like to thank my coaching staff, teammates, friends, and family who constantly push me and who never expect anything less than a double-double. I could not have done this without them."
With the win, the Bloodhounds are back at .500 at 3-3 (1-0 in CUNYAC) on the season. The Fighting Blue Jays fall to 2-5 overall.
Junior
Amanda Jimenez led off the game hitting a jumper but NYU-Poly responded and took an early lead. Minutes later, sophomore
Terri Chu tied it at five after nailing a three-pointer. With 12:04 left in the first half, Forsythe picked up her second rebound of the game and 1,000 of her career. Seconds later, head coach
Diane Ramirez called a timeout and the Brooklyn crowd gave the Brooklyn native a standing ovation.
The Bloodhounds took a seven point lead after freshman Tiffany Rodriguez hit a jumper with seven minutes remaining. The Fighting Blue Jays cut the lead to three but junior
Tyana Hale and Forsythe hit back-to-back jumpers to increase the lead to seven. At halftime, John Jay led 22-17.
To start the half, sophomore
Tamara Jones made a bucket to increase the lead to seven. Once again, NYU-Poly fought back to cut the deficit to two with 14:52 left in the contest. However, Hale hit a three-pointer to make it 33-28. The Bloodhounds increased the lead to double-digits as Forsythe hit a jump-shot. John Jay would go on to take the non-conference game, 61-55.
"Although a win is a win, I wish we had pulled away and stayed away," Ramirez added. "Yes, double rims make it difficult for shooters and it showed in the first half, but we also didn't make enough stops. Our bench has to learn to come into the game and follow the lead of our starters, there can't be a drop off."
Forsythe finished with her fourth double-double of the season. Hale registered 12 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Jones added a season-high 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Chu had a team-high four assists and junior
Kaitlin Fitzgerald swiped two steals. Jimenez picked up five offensive rebounds and one steal.
NYU-Poly was led by Alyssa D'Apice and Tabitha Larsen, who scored 23 and 14 points, respectively.
The Bloodhounds will head to Baruch College on Friday, December 6, for a conference match. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. Live stats can be found
