Softball Requirements

Thank you for your interest in the John Jay College softball program. We are presently in the process of building a dedicated year round program that will compete at the highest level of NCAA Division III athletics. We are interested in student-athletes who will carry themselves in a professional manner and excel in the classroom and playing field. We are also interested in student-athletes who want to be productive members of the community. Giving back to the community is part of who we are as the John Jay Softball team.

The necessary requirements for playing softball at John Jay College are as follows:

You must be registered for a minimum of twelve credits in the fall and spring semesters.

In order to be eligible to play, you must pass each of the three proficiency exams.

In the fall and spring semesters, you must be finished with class by no later than 12:05pm Monday through Thursday. In the spring, you must also be available Friday’s, Saturday’s, and Sunday’s.

The NCAA requires a 2.0 GPA to play. Throughout the semester progress reports will be sent to all of your professors to make sure that you attend class regularly, and that you are passing your classes.

You will be required to attend a one day tryout that will be held in September. If you perform well in the tryout, you will get an invitation to work out with the team for the fall tournament held in October.

Every student-athlete involved in the John Jay Softball program will be required to perform community service as a part of the necessary requirements.

Also, every student-athlete involved in the John Jay Softball program must take part in mandatory fundraising for the program.

In order to tryout a DOCTORS PHYSICAL is required from your doctor. The require forms that you and your doctor must fill out can be found in the Sports Medicine Link on our webpage.
This must be submitted to the head coach before or on the day of the tryout.
