Men's Soccer Pulls off Shocker, Defeats Top Seeded CCNY 1-0 in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

Ridgewood, N.Y.- Bart Malinowski (Warsaw, Poland/ Park West) netted a goal in the 37th minute of the first half as John Jay men's soccer team, the No. 8 seed in the CUNYAC post-season tournament, pulled off a 1-0 win over top seed CCNY.

The Bloodhounds have advanced to the semifinal round and will face No. 5 York College on Sat. Oct. 28 at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex at 11 a.m.

"The guys were incredible today, everyone played well, I was very pleased," said head coach Stavros Zomopoulos. "We've been growing all season and am looking forward to Saturday's game."

The Bloodhounds took 11 shots, led by four from Madalain Niculae (Bucharest, Romania/ Grover Cleveland).

Starting in only his second game of the season in net, goalkeeper Michal Podbielski (Bellrose, NY/ Art & Design) conserved a shutout, making eight saves for his first shutout of the season.
