Academic Support Services

A comprehensive list of support services can may be found at the College. Services that are of special significance to student-athletes include:
  1. Mid-semester progress reports
  2. Identification of high-risk student athletes
  3. SARGE meetings
  • Once per week for all first semester freshman, first semester transfers and all student-athletes at a 2.5 grade point average or below.
  • Monthly SARGE meetings for all student-athletes at a 2.6 – 3.4 Student-athletes
  • Less frequently for all student-athletes above a 3.5 depending on discussions with the Assistant Athletics Director.
  1. Referrals to: the Writing Center, the Math and Science Resource Center (MSRC) and the Foreign Language Lab
  2. Athletics Department Verification Letters
  • Student-athletes must inform the Assistant Athletics Director of which classes he/she will need verification letters for at the beginning of the season. 
  • There are not excuse letters but rather a verification that the student is on the team and off campus representing the college in intercollegiate competition.   
  • A professor may still count a student absent and the student is still responsible for the work due that day.
  1. Priority registration
  2. 1 credit for participating in a full season of any one sport. Student-athlete must have 90 credits in order to enroll for the PED credit of his/her sport. Student-athletes should inform the Assistant Athletics Director when he/she has completed 90 credits.
 

Academic Timetable

August - September:
-     Required compliance meeting with Assistant Athletics Director/Compliance Officer and Trainer. Head Coach and all players must attend.
-     Scheduling SARGE meetings. SARGE meetings begin the 2nd week of class.
-     Eligibility report prepared and distributed to fall coaches.
September - October:
-      Eligibility report prepared and distributed to winter coaches.
Mid October - November:
-      Progress reports distributed and tutoring referrals made
December - January:
-      Mid-season eligibility report prepared and distributed to winter coaches.
January:
-      SARGE meetings with high-risk student-athletes during winter session.
February:
-       Eligibility report prepared and distributed to spring coaches.
Early March:
-      Progress reports distributed and tutoring referrals made
June – July:
-      Eligibility report with returning student-athletes prepared and distributed to all head coaches
Late July:
-      Next academic year's starting dates are issued.
 

Academic Probation - Dismissal
 
Any Student whose grade point average falls below the required minimum will be placed on academic probation. While on probation, a student shall not be eligible to hold office in any recognized student organization, to represent the college in any sense, or to participate on any intercollegiate athletic team.
