Women’s Swimming Rolls On, Defeats York 106-45

Jamaica, N.Y. — The John Jay women’s swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 on the season as they defeated York College 106-45 at York on Monday evening.
 
John Jay won seven of the 13 events on the evening as they are now 2-0 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
 
Sasha Martell (Astoria, NY/ Long Island City), Michelle Cordero (Brooklyn, NY/ Fontbonne Hall Academy), Kelly Calderon (Bronx, NY/ St. Catherine Academy), and Katelyn O’Shea (Union, NJ/ Union) teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (2:50.28), while Lorraine Virgilio (Woodside, NY/ Riverbend) took first place in the 800 free (14:57.34), then scored a first place finish in the 500 free (5:47.43).
 
Cordero took first place once again in the third event of the night by winning the 200 free (3:30.60), followed by another win in the 100 free (1:33.09). O’Shea claimed first in the 50 free (34.12) in her lone duel meet of the night.
 
Calderon also won again on the evening when she cruised home to win the 100 fly (1:45.40).
 
In the final event of the evening Martell, O’Shea, Erin Mondello (Mastic Beach, NY/ William Floyd), and Ganimete Ukperaj (Bellmore, NY/ John F Kennedy) teamed up in the 200 free relay for a first place finish (2:37.22).
 
The Bloodhounds will return to action on Thu. Nov. 16 for a meet with the College of Staten Island, 6 p.m. at the John Jay Pool.
