New York, N.Y. --- John Jay’s women’s swimming and diving team suffered their first loss of the season as they were defeated by the College of Staten Island 59-35 at John Jay Pool on Thursday evening.
The Bloodhounds now stand at 3-1 (2-1 CUNYAC) this season.
In a losing effort Lorraine Virgilio (Woodside, NY/ Riverbend) was a flawless three-for three on the evening winning each of her events as she took first place in the 200 individual medley (2:34.55), 100 butterfly (1:11.10), and 100 breast (1:24.66).
In the 200 free relay the team of Kelly Calderon (Bronx, NY/ St. Catherine’s Academy), Erika Elgort (Ft. Salonga, NY/ St. Anthony’s), Erin Mondello (Mastic Beach, NY/ William Floyd), and Sasha Martell (Astoria, NY/ Long Island City) took first place (2:26.83).
The Bloodhounds will return to action on Thu. Dec 7 against Hunter College at Hunter’s Brookdale Campus (East 25th street and 1st avenue) at 6:00 p.m. In addition Virgilio and Katelyn O’Shea (Union, NJ/ Union) will compete in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) championship meet at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. Dec. 1-3.
