New York, N.Y. – With most of John Jay’s regular starters seeing limited or no action, the women’s basketball team still managed to come away with their most lopsided victory of the season defeating CCNY 66-21 at the Doghouse on Wednesday evening.
The Bloodhounds scored the first nine points in the contest and were never threatened. John Jay led by as much as 27 in the first half before settling for a 36-11 lead at the break.
Higgins, Escalera, and, Sha-kia Hart (Brooklyn, NY/Graham School) paced John Jay with a tri team-high 11 points a piece.
Escalera also grabbed 10 rebounds, giving her 991 for her career, while Ogunleye also grabbed 10 boards.
John Jay forced CCNY into 38 turnovers, as the Bloodhounds recorded 25 steals in the win, including six a piece by Payne and Hart, plus five more by Nasira Johnson (Newark, NJ/ West Side), who saw 13 minutes of action in the second half.
CCNY was led in scoring by Angelica Sze (Queens, NY/Brooklyn Tech HS) with 12 points, while Naomi Solano (Manhattan, NY/Aquinas HS) pulled down 11 rebounds.
John Jay improves to 8-4 (2-1 CUNYAC) while CCNY is now 0-10 (0-3 CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds return to action on Sat. Jan. 6 at Lehman College at 12 p.m.
