Buzzards Bay, Mass. — The John Jay rifle team fired an 1889 in small bore and 1946 in air rifle as the Bloodhounds lost a pair of events at Massachusetts Maritime. The hosts shot a 1924 in small bore and 2097 in air rifle.
Steve Wilson (Freeport, NY / Freeport) shot a team-high 540 in small bore to lead the way for the Bloodhounds. Fellow teammate Dmitri Gordeychuk (Kiev, Ukraine / N42) nailed a 491, while Mike Gorini (Brooklyn, NY / Xavier) drilled a 449. Rounding out the scoring for John Jay was Paul Gates (New York, NY / St. Agnes) who scored a 409.
In air rifle the Bloodhounds got a match-high 546 from Wilson, while Gordeychuk hit up the target for a 506. Gates earned a 457 in the air rifle competition, while Gorini had a 437.
Jennifer Levy (Buenos Aires, Argentina / Syosset Senior) in her collegiate shooting debut scored a 479, while Margaret La (Taipei, Taiwan / Susan Wagner), also making her college rifle debut scored a 400.
John Jay will return to action on Sat. Oct. 20 for its only home match of the season against SUNY Maritime.
