Men's Soccer Loses Tight One at Rutgers-Newark

Newark, N.J.— The John Jay men’s soccer team, playing its final non conference regular season game of the year, lost a tight one on Monday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Rutgers-Newark University 1-0.
 
The host Scarlet Raiders scored the game’s lone goal in the 89th minute as John Jay has now lost 1-0 in its past two contests.
 
The Bloodhounds did come with a rush less than a minute after the Scarlet Raiders took the lead, and appeared to score a would be game tying goal off the foot of Kamal Haruna (Accra, Ghana / Martin Luther King), but the equalizer was waved off for an offsides call.
 
Rutgers-Newark would hold on from there as the Bloodhounds now stand at 6-9-2 on the season.
 
John Jay was out shot 29-6 in the contest, including 8-2 in shots on goal.
 
Edwin Casas (Bogota, Colombia / South Side) stopped seven shots in net, while Oscar Garcia (East Elmhurst, NY / St. John’s Prep) recorded two shots for the Bloodhounds, one of which was on net. Joceny Theresias (St. Louis-Du-Nord, Haiti / Metropolitan) was the other member of the Bloodhounds to put a shot on net.
 
John Jay will return to action on Wed. Oct. 17 for its 2007 regular season finale against Hunter College, 6 p.m. at the Metropolitan Oval.
