John Jay Strolls to Third Straight Win, Defeats York 54-29

New York, N.Y. --- The John Jay women’s swimming team picked up its third straight win on Monday as the Bloodhounds defeated York College, 54-29, in a duel match at the John Jay Pool.
 
The win improves John Jay to 3-0 (2-0 CUNYAC) on the season.
 
The host Bloodhounds led from start to finish and were never threatened in the event.
 
John Jay opened the meet by winning first place in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Malory Simons (Elmira, NY / Southside), Ashley Stewart (Lacey Township, NJ / Lacey Township), Samantha Michaele (Somerset, NJ / Immaculata), and Heather Vobis (Lindenhurst, NY / Lindenhurst) won via a walkover (2:32.75) to give John Jay a 7-0 advantage.
 
After finishing second and third in the second event of the evening (1000 free), the Bloodhounds finished first and second in the 200 yard free as Amanda Garcia (Astoria, NY / St. John’s Prep) powered to victory (2:45.57) with Christina Rivera (Guaynabo. Puerto Rico / Bayamon Military Academy) finishing right behind (2:57.44).
 
The Bloodhounds then took a 20-point lead (27-7) after recording another exacta by going first and second in the 50 yard free. Rachael Spellman (East Meadow, NY / East Meadow) came home a winner (30.36) and Vobis earned the place spot (33.88).
 
John Jay tripled its lead after Rivera took first place in the 100 yard butterfly (1:51.35) as the Bloodhounds went up 36-12.
 
The Bloodhounds then recorded its final exacta of the night when Michelle Cordero (Brooklyn, NY / Fontbonne Hall Academy) won the 100 yard backstroke (1:33.68) and Mary McCloud (Lindenhurst, NY / St. John the Baptist) came in second (1:37.51).
 
Garcia then won the 500 yard freestyle (7:42.00) to give the Bloodhounds a 54-21 lead before swimming the rest of the way as exhibition.
 
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Nov. 16 at the College of Staten Island at 6 p.m.
