Staten Island, N.Y. --- The John Jay women’s swimming team suffered its first loss of the season as the Bloodhounds were defeated by the College of Staten Island, 109-88, on Friday.
Despite the loss many John Jay swimmers placed high in individual races, including five second place finishes.
The team of Mallory Simons (Elmira, NY / Southside), Ashley Stewart (Lacey Township, NJ / Lacey Township), Samantha Michaele (Somerset, NJ / Immaculata), and Rachael Spellman (East Meadow, NY / East Meadow) scored a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (2:25.73).
Spellman then scored a second place finish 50 yard free (30.52), while Cecilia Pena (Brooklyn, NY / Bushwick) placed third (33.81).
In the 100 yard butterfly Michaele placed second (1:34.67), while Christina Rivera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Bayamon Military Academy) came home in third (1:51.19).
Spellman scored a second place finish once again in the 100 yard free (1:09.69), and Stewart came home in second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:25.28).
John Jay returns to action on Tue. Nov. 27 against SUNY Purchase, 6 p.m. at the John Jay Pool.
