Newark, N.J.— The John Jay women’s basketball team lost on the road Saturday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Rutgers-Newark, 63-14, in a non-conference affair at Rutgers-Newark’s Golden Dome on Saturday.
Rutgers-Newark raced out to a 10-0 lead and never trailed in the contest. John Jay was limited to five points in the first half and were down 35-5 at halftime. Parker Griffin (New York, NY / Bishop Kearney) recorded all of John Jay’s first half points. For the game she paced the Bloodhounds with seven points.
Trailing by 30 at halftime the Bloodhounds got no closer in the second half. Rutgers-Newark outscored the Bloodhounds 26-4 through the first 12 minutes of the second to take its biggest lead of the night, 52 points (61-9) before coming away with a 49 point margin.
Tina Ogunleye (Islandia, NY / Central Islip) paced John Jay with a game-high 10 rebounds.
John Jay returns to action on Tue. Dec. 4 for its 2007-08 home and CUNYAC opener when they host Baruch College at 5 p.m.
