Tampa, Fl. – The John Jay baseball team fell to 0-2 on the season after the Bloodhounds dropped a 7-6 decision to Husson College on Monday morning.
The Bloodhounds, playing as the visiting team, scored two runs in the first inning as well as the second inning, then got another in the top half of the third to take a 5-0 lead.
However Husson stormed back with six runs (all unearned) in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-5 lead after four innings.
The Bloodhounds got a run back in the top of the seventh to pull even, but Husson got the game winning run across in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Bloodhounds.
John Jay was out hit 8-7 in the game and got two hits a piece from
Henry Chao (Woodside, NY/ Bryant) and
John Massoni (Staten Island, NY/ St. Peter’s Boys), who both went 2-for-5.
Massoni also drove in two runs as did
Kenneth Sepulveda (Valley Stream, NY/ Valley Stream Central), who went 1-for-3 with a triple and scored twice.
Michael Colletta (Staten Island, NY/ New Dorp) started on the mound and pitched four complete innings, allowing five hits, six runs (none earned), and struck out one.
Marcos Almonzar (Brooklyn, NY/ Telecommunications) pitched four innings of relief and allowed one run (unearned) in four innings of work. He allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out four.
John Jay will return to action on Tue. Mar. 6 against St. John Fisher College at 2:30 p.m.
