Brooklyn, N.Y.— John Jay made sure they stayed a step a head of Mitchell College as the Bloodhounds swept the Pequots in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Legion Field winning the first game 10-0 and the second game 9-3.

The win now improves the Bloodhounds record to 13-10 (8-0 CUNYAC), while Mitchell is now 12-8 (10-3 CUNYAC).

The Bloodhounds took control from the outset, scoring four runs in the first inning and four more in inning number two to take an 8-0 lead early.

After taking an eight run lead after two the Bloodhounds added a two run homer from Henry Chao (Woodside, NY/ Bryant), his first long ball of the season to give John Jay a 10 run advantage.

The early run support proved to be more than enough as John Jay senior pitcher John Dobkowski (Brooklyn, NY/ Grover Cleveland) went the distance earning his second shutout of the season. He went seven strong, scattering five hits while striking out six and walking none to improve to 4-2 on the season.

The Bloodhounds had a big Game one effort from Joe Ayala (Bronx, NY/ St. Raymond’s) who was 3-for-3 with a run and four runs batted in. Chao also went 3-for-3 with three runs and two runs batted in.

For Micthell Matt Chattell (Warwick, RI/ Bishop Hendricken) recorded two of the Pequots’ five hits with a singe and a double.

Rayallen Bergman (Oakdale, CT/ Montville) pitched three innings of relief and no runs on three hits.

In the second game the Bloodhounds once again came through with four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead taking advantage of several Mitchell miscues.

With John Jay leading 2-0 with two outs in the first, senior Richard Santana (New York, NY/ A Phillip Randolph) struck out swinging at a wild pitch for the would be third out. But the throw to first by the catcher sailed over the first baseman’s head. That allowed two more runners to score later in the inning.

In the top of the second Mitchell would get on the board on an RBI groundout by Andrew Langlais (Ledyard, CT/ Ledyard) that would score Salvatore Messina (Prospect, CT/ Wolcott).

But John Jay would add another run in the bottom of the second and another in the third to take a 6-1 advantage and cruise home.

Michael Colletta (Staten Island, NY/ New Dorp) went seven full innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out four to earn the win.
