Game 1         Game 2

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team dropped a pair of games on Monday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were swept in a doubleheader by Hunter College. John Jay lost the first contest 9-0, before losing the nightcap 12-0. The losses leave John Jay at 6-19 (1-8 CUNYAC) on the season.

In the first game the Bloodhounds failed to get a hit or a base runner in defeat. The visiting Hawks recorded a run in the first inning which proved to be enough as Hunter starting pitcher Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, NY/ James Madison) retired all 15 batters she faced in the five inning game.

Hunter scored another run in the second inning and four more in the third to take a 6-0 lead after three frames. The Hawks then recorded three more runs in the fifth to take a nine run lead and hold the Bloodhounds at bay.

Dayna Navatta (Queens, NY/ Bayside) allowed nine runs (five earned) in the contest for John Jay. She gave up 10 hits, walked three and struck out one for the Bloodhounds.

In the second game Hunter scored 12 runs over the first three innings to complete the sweep over John Jay.

The Bloodhounds recorded three hits in the nightcap, two from freshman shortstop Danielle Bonici (Staten Island, NY/ St. Peter’s Girls) and one from Jennifer Marano (Freeport, NY/ Our Lady of Mercy).

John Jay’s best chance to score came in the third inning when they had the bases loaded with one out. But the next two batters struck out as the Bloodhounds were denied any runs on the afternoon.

John Jay returns to action on Tue. for a single game against Medgar Evers College at 3:30 p.m. at East River Park Field 1.
