Bloodhounds Dunk Dolphins, Defeat Mt. St. Vincent's 13-7

Bronx, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team got back on the winning track on Thursday as the Bloodhounds defeated the College of Mt. St. Vincent’s 13-7. The Bloodhounds improved to 14-12 overall with the win.
 
John Jay never trailed in the contest and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI hits by James DeCesare (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) and Joe Ayala (Bronx, NY/ St. Raymond’s).
 
The host Dolphins got a run back in the bottom of the second, but John Jay doubled up again with two more runs in the top of the fourth on a bases clearing triple by Henry Chao (Woodside, NY/ Bryant) that drove in Johan Abad (Brooklyn, NY/ Flushing) and Anthony Cestaro (Paramus, NJ/ Paramus).
 
The Bloodhounds eventually broke it open in the top of the fifth with a six run frame taking advantage of Dolphin errors which resulted in five runs unearned. The big hit was a two run double by Chao to drive in Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY/ Murray Bergtraum) and Abad.
 
It gave the Bloodhounds a 10-2 lead at that point as John Jay coasted from there.
 
Chao led the Bloodhounds with a four RBI day. He went 2-for-6 with a double and triple, while Ayala was 3-for-6 with a  run and a run batted in.
 
John Jay also got two hits a piece from Abad, Hernandez, Cestaro and Richard Santana (New York, NY/ A Phillip Randolph).
 
The Bloodhounds recorded 15 hits on the afternoon as did Mt. St. Vincent’s. But the Bloodhounds played an error free game, while the Dolphins committed six errors.
 
John Massoni (Staten Island, NY/ St. Peter’s Boys) earned the win on the mound. He went six innings allowing five runs on 10 hits, while striking out six.
