Bloodhounds Down Yeshiva, Remain in First Place in CUNYAC

Brooklyn, N.Y.—  The John Jay baseball team scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised home from there as the Bloodhounds defeated Yeshiva University 13-2 at Legion Field on Monday afternoon. With the win the Bloodhounds are now 16-13 (10-2 CUNYAC) and remain in first place in conference play.
 
With the reserve players seeing much action the backups made the most of their time as the Bloodhounds got three hits a piece from Edwin Hernandez (New York, NY/ Murray Bergtraum), Luis Guzman (Yonkers, NY/ Mt. St. Michael’s), and Michael Cafagno (Bedford Hills, NY/ Family Foundation). Hernandez finished up with a run, an RBI, and three stolen bases, while Guzman scored three times and drove in a run. Cafagno crossed home twice and drove home three runs in the win.
 
John Polzotto (Auburndale, NY/ Bryant) contributed with a 2-for-6 effort with two runs and an RBI.
 
The Bloodhounds out hit the host Macabees 19-9 in the contest.
 
Marcos Almonzar (Brooklyn, NY/ Telecommunications) picked up the win. He pitched three innings and allowed no runs on four hits. Ross Garner (Smithtown, NY/ Oneonta) and Steven Hernandez (North Bergan, NJ/ North Bergan) each pitched in relief for the Bloodhounds. Garner went 3.0 innings of shutout ball allowing one hit, while Hernandez allowed two runs on two hits in 2.0 innings of work.
 
John Jay returns to action on Tue. May 1 against the College of Staten Island, 3:30 p.m. at Legion Field.
