John Jay Men's Soccer Plays Staten Island to a 1-1 Tie

Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay men’s soccer team remains unbeaten in conference play this season as the Bloodhounds played to a 1-1 with the College of Staten Island at the CSI Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon. The ties leaves the Bloodhounds at 3-3-1 (1-0-1 CUNYAC) on the season.
 
In what was statistically an evenly matched contest the Bloodhounds scored first early in the contest, getting a goal in the 11th minute off the foot of Hiromi Karahashi (Kanagawa, Japan / St. Johnsburg), his second of the season and in as many games.
 
The goal came off a cross pass from Jemal Ninua (Republic of Georgia / James Madison), and it gave the Bloodhounds a 1-0 advantage.
 
John Jay had the advantage for just over 17 minutes, when the host Dolphins got on the scoreboard with a goal of their own at the 27:12 mark of the opening half.
 
The game went into halftime with a 1-1 score, and neither team scored the rest of the way.
 
The Bloodhounds out shot the Dolphins 26-23 in the contest, including a combined 8-2 advantage in the two extra sessions. But the Bloodhounds could not punch one past the Dolphin keeper.
 
John Jay got a team-high five shots from Daniel Vargas (Corona, NY / Arts and Business), while Edwin Casas (Bogota, Colombia / South Side), made his second consecutive start at the goalkeeper position this season, and denied a season-high 12 shots in the draw.
 
John Jay returns to action on Mon. Sept. 17 at Montclair State at 4 p.m.
