Upper Montclair, N.J.— The John Jay men’s soccer team, playing arguably its toughest opponent on the schedule this season, fell on Monday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were defeated by nationally ranked Montclair State University, 7-0. With the loss John Jay now stands at 3-4-1 on the season.
Montclair State, ranked ninth in the nation in the latest Division III pole, broke the scoreless tie 14 minutes into the match en route to a shutout.
The host Red Hawks had a 4-0 lead at halftime and got two goals a piece from Owen Nichols (Princeton, NJ / Princeton) and Tyler Masterson (Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central) in the contest.
The Bloodhounds were outshot 18-2 in the match with both Bloodhound shots coming from Oscar Garcia (San Jose, Costa Rica / St. Francis Prep), one in each half.
Edwin Casas (Bogota, Colombia / South Side) made eight saves in the match for the Bloodhounds as he suffers his first loss of the season in net.
John Jay returns to action on Wed. Sept. 19 for its 2007 home opener against conference rival Brooklyn College, 6 p.m. at the Metropolitan Oval.
