John Jay Falls at NJCU

The John Jay men’s soccer team fell to 1-2 on the season as the Bloodhounds lost on the road losing to New Jersey City University (NJCU), 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The host Gothic Knights scored the first goal of the game 23 seconds into the contest and had a 2-0 lead 1:07 into the contest.
 
NJCU scored two more goals within the next 15 minutes and had a 4-0 lead at halftime.
 
The Bloodhounds had several chances earlier. Jemal Ninua (Republic of Georgia / James Madison) ripped a penalty kick in the 14th minute of play that missed. Less than two minutes later the Gothic Knights put another goal past the Bloodhound keeper to increase its lead to 4-0.
 
The second half saw more of the same as the Gothic Knights added five more goals in the final 45 minutes to hand John Jay their worst loss in two years.
 
Kemar Brown (Kingston, Jamaica / Martin Van Buren) recorded a career-high nine saves in the contest as John Jay now has an 0-11 lifetime record against NJCU.
 
The Bloodhounds were out shot 28-12 in the match and got two shots a piece from Kamal Haruna (Accra, Ghana / Martin Luther King), Christopher Tapia (Fresh Meadows, NY / Central Islip), Jonathan Cedeno (Guayaquil,  Ecuador / Long Island City), and Ninua.
 
John Jay returns to action on Sat. Sept. 8 at St. Joseph’s-Patchogue for day one of the St. Joseph’s-Patchogue tournament at 2 p.m.
