Patchogue, N.Y.— The John Jay men’s soccer team lost on the road Saturday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by St. Joseph’s-Patchogue 3-0 in the opening round of the St. Joseph’s-Patchogue tournament.
The Bloodhounds now stand at 1-3-0 on the season.
The host Golden Eagles struck first early in the first half scoring in the 13th minute of play to take a 1-0 advantage. In what was an evenly played contest the goal would be the lone goal of the half as St. Joseph’s-Patchogue went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
The Bloodhounds were out shot in the contest 16-15 and both teams recorded seven shots a piece in the opening half.
The Golden Eagles nailed two insurance goals late in the contest with a goal in the 76th minute and another in the 83rd to secure the win.
John Jay got a game-high five shots from Oscar Garcia (East Elmhurst, NY / St. Francis Prep) and another three from Kamal Haruna (Accra, Ghana / Martin Luther King) in the contest.
Kemar Brown (Kingston, Jamaica / Martin Van Buren) made three saves in the contest for John Jay.
The Bloodhounds recorded five corner kicks in the match to one for St. Joseph’s-Patchogue.
John Jay returns to action on Sun. Sept. 9 for the consolation game of the St. Joseph’s-Patchogue tournament. The Bloodhounds will face St. Joseph’s-Vermont at noon. St. Joseph’s-Vermont lost 2-0 to Rutgers-Newark in the other contest of the tournament.
