Box Score Jamaica, N.Y.— The John Jay College of Criminal Justice women’s tennis team lost a tight one on Saturday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by William Paterson College 5-4 at the York College Tennis Complex. The Bloodhounds are now 1-1 on the season.
The visiting Pioneers won two of three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 advantage. Daisy Rivera (Bronx, NY / HS of Law, Gvt & Justice) and Elizabeth Cyran (Paramus, NJ / Paramus Catholic) scored an 8-5 victory in first doubles.
In singles competition the Bloodhounds won at the top three flights. Rivera defeated William Paterson’s Rachel Mennzzopane (Neptune, NJ / Neptune) (6-3, 7-5), while Cyran scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Delnaz Shalforoosh (Haworth, NJ / Northern Valley Regional Demarest).
At no. 3 Ariadna DiFabrizio (Mendoza, Argentina / Cobble Hill) won 6-3, 6-4 over Christine Spicer (New Gretna, NJ / Pinelands Regional). But William Paterson scored victories at the bottom three flights to squeak out the win.
John Jay returns to action on Tue. Sept. 11 at Brooklyn College at 4 p.m.
