Women's Swimming Falls at Baruch

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women’s swimming team fell on the road Thursday evening as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Baruch College 107-66.
 
The Bloodhounds, swimming in their first meet in over a month, fell behind early and never had a lead in the meet.
 
The host Bearcats swam first and second in the 200 meter medley relay to take a 13-3 lead after one event.
 
John Jay edged closer after the second event as the Bloodhounds finished second and third. Samantha Michaele (Somerset, NJ / Immaculata) claimed second place in the 800 meter free (15:34.74), while Deandra Beach (Brooklyn, NY / South Shore) came in third (17:38.28).
 
Baruch claimed first and second place for much of the event. But the Bloodhounds scored points for first and second in the final three events of the evening.
 
Amanda Garcia (Astoria, NY / St. John’s Prep) finished first place in the 400 free (7:06.31), while in the 100 meter breast Ashley Stewart (Lacey Township, NJ / Lacey Township) and Beach recorded an exacta.
 
Stewart finished first (1:37.54), while Beach came home in second (2:10.16).
 
In the final event of the evening, the 200 free relay the team of Kelly Calderon (Bronx, NY / St. Catherine’s Academy), Michaele, Beach, and Garcia teamed for the first place finish (2:49.61).
