New York, NY – The John Jay women’s basketball team was defeated on the road as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Baruch College, 91-47, in a conference match at Baruch’s ARC Arena on Wednesday. The Bloodhounds are now 4-15 (2-7 CUNYAC).
John Jay got a team-high 13 points from Tina Ogunleye (Islandia, NY / Central Islip) who also had a game high 11 rebounds in the contest.
Both teams traded baskets in the very early stages in the contest, and the game was tied at 6-6 two and a half minutes into the game. But the host Bearcats took command shortly after that. Baruch, undefeated in conference play at 9-0, raced out on a 16-0 run in five and a half minutes to take a 22-6 lead with seven minutes gone by in the game.
Baruch built its lead to as much as 25 (44-19 with 3:33 to go) before going into halftime up by 22 at 45-23.
The Bloodhounds got the lead to within twenty (45-25) in the opening minute of the second half on an Ogunleye lay-up. But John Jay never got closer as Baruch gradually pulled away. The Bearcats led by as much as 48 in the second half before the final buzzer.
Parker Griffin (New York, NY / Bishop Kearney) added 10 points for John Jay to go along with seven rebounds.
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Jan. 25 for a home match against CCNY at 5 p.m.
