Women's Basketball Loses Conference Match at Lehman

Bronx, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team lost a conference match on the road Thursday evening as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Lehman College, 72-46.

John Jay, now 1-4 (0-2 CUNYAC), got a career-high 21 points from Maxine Jenkins (Astoria, NY, Bishop Loughlin), who shot 7-for-13 from the floor, including 5-for-9 from three point range.

The host Lightning never trailed in the contest and took a 22-6 lead to open the game.

Lehman led by as much as 25 in the first half and led 37-12, capped on a pair of foul shots by Sally Nnamani, who had a game-high 35 points. John Jay closed out the first half on a mini 4-0 run with all four coming off the hands of Jenkins as John Jay went into halftime down 37-16.

John Jay opened the second half on a 10-5 spurt (14-5 overall) to pull to within 42-26 with 14:44 remaining capped by back-to-back three point field goals by Jenkins.

But Lehman went on a 13-3 run immediately after with the latter 10 point coming from Nnamani that gave the Lightning a 52-29 lead with 11:38 to play, and Lehman would win from there.

Sophomore guard Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas) added 12 points for the Bloodhounds, while Parker Griffin (New York, NY, Bishop Kearney) had a team-high 11 rebounds. Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) had 10 rebounds as John Jay held a 57-56 advantage in the rebounding department.

John Jay returns to action on Sat. Dec. 6 at Vassar College at 2 p.m.
