Baseball Overpowers Yeshiva, Defeats Macabees 25-4

Brooklyn, N.Y.— Chris Nastasi (Bayville, NY / IMG Academy) recorded two homeruns in the third inning, en route to going 4-for-5 with two homeruns, a triple, five runs, and four RBI as the John Jay baseball team scored 25 runs in the first four innings to make quick work of Yeshiva Univ. as the Bloodhounds defeated the Macabees 25-4 at Legion Field on Thursday. The game was called after 7 1/2 innings due to darkness. The win increases John Jay's winning streak against Skyline Conference teams to 15 games dating back to the 2006 season (21 including six wins against Yeshiva when the Macabees were a CUNYAC team).
 
Yeshiva scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to get first run on the Bloodhounds taking a 2-0 lead.  But John Jay scored five runs in the bottom of the first, five more in the second, and eight in the third to take an 18-2 advantage as the Bloodhounds coasted.
 
After Yeshiva got a run back in the top of the fourth, the Bloodhounds added seven more in the bottom half of the frame to take a 25-3 lead and give way to the reserves.
 
Nastasi scored each time he reached base, while teammate Jorge Rosado (Santo Domingo, DR / Martin Luther King) went 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBI.
 
Johan Abad (Flushing, NY / Flushing) and Anthony Cestaro (Paramus, NJ / Paramus) each recorded three RBI on the day, while Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY / Manhattan Center) went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
 
Eight of the nine starters recorded at least one hit, and every starter scored at least one time as John Jay upped its current winning streak against Skyline Conference teams to 15 games (not including six games in which John Jay defeated Yeshiva while the Macabees were a member of CUNYAC).
 
Nico Rivera (Brooklyn, NY / Abraham Lincoln) picked up the win on the mound. He went five innings, allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, and recorded three strikeouts.
 
John Jay returns to action on Sun. Mar. 16 at Manhattanville College for a doubleheader starting at noon.
