Softball Loses a Pair at Montclair State

Upper Montclair, N.J.— The John Jay softball team lost a pair of games on the road as the Bloodhounds were swept in a doubleheader, losing at Montclair State 8-0 in both games. John Jay is now 3-3 on the season.
 
Against the reigning New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Pitcher of the Year, Carolyn McCrea the Bloodhounds were no hit in the opener as the Red Hawks pitcher struck out the first 12 batters she faced.
 
Montclair State got three runs across in the bottom of the first and two more in the second to take a 5-0 advantage en route to an 8-0 five inning win.
 
Angela Lam (Brooklyn, NY / Newtown) went 4.0 innings and struck out three in the opener.
 
In the second game, the Bloodhounds got a 2-for-3 performance out of Alyce Miraglia (Lindenwood, NY / Stellar Maris) with a  stolen base. But Montclair State scored two in the second and another in the third to go up 3-0.
 
And the Red Hawks scored three in the fourth and got two more in the fifth to go up 8-0 and win via the five inning mercy rule.
 
Nina Chao (Woodside, NY / Bryant) went 5.0 innings in the second game and allowed eight runs and struck out two batters.
 
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Mar. 28 at Baruch College for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
