Game 1         Game 2

Wayne, N.J. – The John Jay softball team lost both games of a doubleheader as Bloodhounds were defeated by William Paterson University, losing the first game, 12-4, and the second game 8-0. John Jay now stands at 8-17 on the season.

The host Pioneers took control of the first game from the outset, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first to take a 6-0 lead.  And after scoring another run in the second and four more in the third, William Paterson had an 11-0 lead after three.

The Bloodhounds got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Nina Chao (Woodside, NY / Bryant) ripped  a two out single into right field to score Arlene Pena (Bronx, NY / Lehman).

The Pioneers got the run back in the bottom of inning four before the Bloodhounds put three run on the scoreboard, but not quite enough to keep the game alive as William Paterson won the opener via the five inning mercy rule. Danielle Bonici (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter’s Girls) ripped a bases clearing triple in the top of the fifth to score Marina Gomez (Bronx, NY / DeWitt Clinton), Dayne Navatta (College Point, NY / Bayside) and Pamela Peralta (Bronx, NY / John F. Kennedy).

The Bloodhounds had five hits in game one, with one each coming from Bonici, Pena, Chao, Gomez and Peralta.

In the second game the Bloodhounds recorded one hit, as William Paterson scored a run in the first, three in the third, three in the fourth and one in the sixth to gradually pull away and win in six innings via the mercy rule.

Chao smashed a single up the middle in the second inning for the Bloodhounds’ only hit and John Jay had two base runners in the game (Jasmine Miranda (Passaic, NJ / Passaic) reached base on an error in the third inning for the Bloodhounds only other base runner).

John Jay returns to action on Sat. Apr. 19 for a doubleheader at Lehman College starting at noon.
