Box Score

Florham Park, N.J.— The John Jay baseball team lost on the road Wednesday as the Bloodhounds were defeated 5-3 at FDU-Florham. The Bloodhounds were held to four hits in the contest and were one hitted and shut out through the first eight innings. John Jay is now 20-17 on the season.

The host Blue Devils got two runs in the first, one in the seventh and two in the eighth to go up 5-0.

But the Bloodhounds mounted a rally in the ninth to get back into it, but not quite enough.

John Jay got on the board when Jonathan Cuevas (East Elmhurst, NY / Chathederal School) led off the top of the ninth with a double. Moments later Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY / Murry Bergtraum) reached on an error by the FDU second baseman. Cuevas came in to score as Steven Roman (Middletown, NY / Chapel Field Christian) recorded a sacrifice fly to right.

John Massoni (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter’s Boys), who was 2-for-4, laced a triple to drive in Hernandez. The next batter, Anthony Cestaro (Paramus, NJ / Paramus) followed suit with a single to score Massoni as the Bloodhounds suddenly had the tying run come to the plate with one out.

But the Blue Devils retired the final two batters to preserve the win.

Michael Colletta (Staten Island, NY / New Dorp) went 7.0 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out eight.

John Jay returns to action for its final regular season game this season, a doubleheader at SUNY Purchase, Sunday at noon.
