Box Score The John Jay baseball team lost the first round of the championship round of the 2008 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) baseball championship game as the Bloodhounds were defeated 3-2 at the CSI Baseball Complex. With the loss John Jay will face the Dolphins in a decisive game to determine the conference champions.
The game remained scoreless though six innings before the top seeded Dolphins plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 3-0 lead.
John Jay came back with two runs in the top of the eighth to edge closer. With the bases loaded and two out Cestaro ripped a groundball to short, but the CSI shortstop’s flip to second was not in time as Chris Nastasi, who was 0-for-3 with a walk, slid in safely as Hernandez came in to score.
Moments later John Massoni, who was 1-for-4 with a run, scored from third on a wild pitch to move to within one run of the lead. But the Bloodhounds failed to score the game tying run.
John Jay then went quietly in the ninth as the Dolphins force a decisive game.
Massoni went 6 2/3 innings on the mound and allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three as he suffered the loss, just his second of the season.
The decisive game is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
