Men's Soccer Loses 2008 Conference Opener to CCNY, 1-0

Newark, N.J.— The John Jay men’s soccer team lost a tough one on the road Wednesday as they Bloodhounds were defeated 1-0 in their 2008 conference opener to the City College of New York at the Rutgers-Newark Soccer Complex.
 
With the loss the Bloodhounds are 2-5-0 (0-1-0) on the season.
 
Henrique Avellar led the way for the Bloodhounds with a game high eight shots, five of which were on goal. Teammate Christopher Tapia added three shots for the Bloodhounds as John Jay outshot the Beavers 17-15.
 
The game was scoreless at halftime, but the host Beavers got the games lone goal in the 65th minute off the foot of Dennis Githui which proved to be enough to edge the Bloodhounds.
 
Chris Adao made 10 saves in net for the Bloodhounds.
 
John Jay returns to action on Sat. Sept. 20 at conference rival York College, noon at the York College Soccer Complex.
