New York, N.Y. --- The John Jay women's basketball team lost a home conference match to York College, 71-54, at the Doghouse on Friday evening.

John Jay, now 1-14 (0-6 CUNYAC), was led by Parker Griffin (New York, NY, Bishop Kearney)with team-highs 19 points and 13 rebounds. Fellow teammates Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas) and Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) had 11 points apiece, while Tina Ogunleye (Islandia, NY, Central Islip) grabbed 12 rebounds. York, now 2-11 (2-4 CUNYAC) and winners of two in a row, were led by Maimouna Dabo with 22 points, while Justina Boatwright knocked in 18. Kadisha Wickham scored 10 and had 10 rebounds.

John Jay raced out of the gate, connecting on their first four trips down court and opened the game with a 10-0 lead.

But the lead quickly evaporated as York countered with a 13-0 run of their own to take a 13-10 lead with 12:56 to play capped on a three point field goal by Boatwright.

Both teams traded leads over the next several possessions. John Jay grabbed its final lead at 9:53 on a lay-up by Griffin to put the Bloodhounds up 16-15, but it was the last lead of the night for them.

With the score tied at 18, the visiting Cardinals raced off an 11-0 run to take a 29-18 lead with 6:07 to play.

York's lead then swelled to as much as 14 and the Cardinals led 36-22 with 3:20 remaining.

John Jay countered in the final three minutes of the first half with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit by fifty percent as John Jay trailed 36-29 at halftime.

The Bloodhounds got to within six early in the second half and trailed 39-33 with just under 18 minutes remaining on a put-back bucket by Ogunleye, but York countered with a 12-4 run to put the Cardinals back up 51-37 with 12:30 to go.

John Jay got to within 10 on several occasions, but no closer. The Bloodhounds trailed 59-49 with 5:25 to go, but York went on a 12-3 run to take a 69-52 lead in the final minute before winning by 17.

John Jay returns to action on Wed. Jan. 21 for a home game against the College of Staten Island at 5 p.m.
