Jamaica, N.Y.— The John Jay women's tennis team was defeated by Lehman College 8-1 on Tuesday as the Bloodhounds wrapped up its 2009 regular season.
With the loss, John Jay ends the regular season at 2-14 overall and 2-7 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. As it stands, John Jay is in eighth place in the conference standings with the top eight making the conference playoffs. New York City College of Technology (NYCCT) is in ninth place with more matches to be played. If John Jay and NYCCT end up tied in the standings, NYCCT holds the tie breaker due to their 5-4 win over the Bloodhounds on Sept. 8.
In today's match, the Bloodhounds lost all three doubles as they went into singles play down 3-0.
The visiting Lightning were victorious in all singles 1-5 to go up 8-0. But at No. 6 singles,
Jessica Rodriguez pulled out a three set win. She won the first set 6-3 before losing a spirited second set 6-4 to set the stage for a tiebreaker where she was a 10-8 winner.
Rodriguez ended the regular season with a 7-9 overall record and 6-3 mark in CUNYAC play.
